When singer, songwriter Marissa Renee Shipp was asked to wear long sleeves to cover up her burn scar in the photo shoot for her new CD, she refused.
The 20-year-old Arizona native, now living in Los Angeles and launching her singing career, will be speaking and performing for the Arizona Children’s Burn Camp, Camp Courage this month.
A burn victim herself and dubbed a ‘Miracle Baby,’ Marissa Renee was inspired by the kids and wrote a song for Camp Courage to encourage the kids to follow their dreams and never give up.
“I was very insecure for the way I looked and was teased a lot for the burn scars on my arm,” Marissa Renee said. “Some kids at the camp are burned far more than I was. I want to remind them that beauty truly does come from the inside-out. Everybody at the camp has a unique story, and my hope is that we can change our stories and change the world.”
